In this lecture, Ustadh Mahmud goes through these sayings from Munabbihat, the counsels of four.

Counsel 1:
It is narrated that Muhammad ibn Ahmad explained the Qur’anic verse “… wa sayyindan wa hasuran wa nabiyan
min al- salihin” (3:39) (meaning: noble, chaste and a Prophet of the righteous) as, “Allah, the Honoured and the
Glorified, referred to Yahya (i.e., John the Baptist) as Sayyid or master despite the fact that he was nothing
more than His slave. This is due to the fact that he was triumphant over four things:

(1) his hawa
(2) he had full control over Iblis (the accused Satan)
(3) he had full control over his tongue
(4) he had full control over his anger.”

Counsel 2:
This religion of Allah and this world will continue to exist in harmony as long as there are four things.
These are:
(1) The rich in the society are not miserly in their spending in the path of Allah.
(2) The learned men (of religion) practice what they have learnt.
(3) The ignorant men do not boast of their knowledge in matters on which they know very little of.
(4) The poor in the society do not sell the Next World in lieu of this world. – ‘Ali (r.a)
