In this lecture, Ustadh Mahmud goes through these sayings from Munabbihat, the counsels of five.

Counsel 1:
Allah does not bestow five qualities on a person until He prepares the way with another five for him.
These are:
(1) Allah does not give him shukr except that He has prepared for him an increase in provision and sustenance.
(2) Allah does not give him Dua except that He has prepared acceptance for him.
(3) Allah does not give him ability to beg for forgiveness (istighfar) except that He has prepared for him forgiveness.
(4) Allah does not give him repentance (tawbah) except that He has prepared for him acceptance.
(5) Allah does not give charity except that He has prepared for him acceptance and rewards. – Muhammad (s.a.w)

Counsel 2:
There are five kinds of darkness (which everyone has to encounter) and these are illuminated by five kinds of lamps.
(1) The love of the dunya is darkness and taqwa (fear of Allah) is its lamp.
(2) Sin is darkness and repentence is its lamp.
(3) Grave is darkness and (the belief there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger) is its lamp.
(4) Akhirah (Hereafter) is darkness and its lamp is good deeds.
(5) The Sirat (the Bridge on the Day of Judgement) is darkness and its lamp is yaqin (certainty of faith).
– Abu Bakr as- Siddiq
